The open-faced ‘splash’ shot works well for standard bunker shots of five to 15 yards, but quite often you need to create a bit more power from the sand. This shot, on the 8th at the Palmeraie Resort in Marrakech, is a great example; I have 20 yards of green to cover, and I need to create a lower flight to get the ball running back to the pin. The solution is to create a stance and swing that deliver a more powerful impact, the club driving forward like a snow plough through the sand. Here’s what you need to do to play it.
