www.callawaygolf.com Lofts: 9°, 10.5°, 13.5° Stock shafts: Aldila Rogue Max, Project X HZRDUS T800, Fujikura Pro Green, MRC Diamana M+ Green Adjustable hosel: Yes How much loft change: -1°/ +2° TECH: “Jailbreak” tech sees two titanium rods connect the crown to the sole behind the face which Callaway says stiffens the head for faster ball speeds. A 17g sliding perimeter weight offers up to 21 yards of shape correction.

WE SAY: The choice between Epic and Sub Zero isn’t quite as clear cut as M1 and M2, as both Epics have adjustable weighting. We see the Epic as offering ball flight correction (via either a draw or fade shot bias) whereas the Sub Zero offers spin adjustment. Our test pro preferred the Epic, and carried drives on average five yards further with it, which highlights how Sub Zero isn’t always the best solution for hard hitters.

VERDICT: There’s no doubt Callaway has hit on something with their new Jailbreak tech. All three testers saw some impressive numbers from the Epic. And we don’t think you’ll find a better sounding driver in 2017 – muted, yet powerful.
