Perranporth, Cornwall

-

Perranporth is the home of one of England’s most spectacular links and it’s just added a handful of luxury lodges that sit among the dunes at the heart of the James Braid layout.

The self-catering lodges provide excellent and spacious on-site accommodation and come with all mod cons. They’re located literally yards from the action, as do the nearby older caravans, with the 12 static homes offering both six and eight-berth accommodation. The clubhouse comprises the Dunes restaurant – serving great-value food – and a small but friendly bar with a large TV showing sports on satellite channels.

Perranporth overlooks one of Cornwall’s best beaches, providing out-of-this-world coastal views. Braid’s layout dramatically hugs the cliffs overlooking the golden sandy beach way down below.

It’s ridiculously quirky and challenging but immense fun too: from the moment you tee it up on the short downhill par-4 opener followed by an intimidating snaking par 5 that twists and turns among colossal sand dunes. At times it will seem like you’re playing on the moon, as you’re frequently asked to hit ‘blind’ drives between towering sand dunes…. aim for the marker posts on top of them and say a little prayer!

It’s a real rollercoaster of a track and within a 30-minute drive you’ve also got popular seaside towns St Ives and Padstow along with Newquay’s famous surfing beaches.
