The Point at Polzeath, Cornwall

-

It’s hard to believe this place – formerly known as Roserrow Golf & Country Club – was on its last legs until Jeremy and Eva Davies came to the rescue. After a lot of hard graft and substantial investment, the changes – on and off the course – have been so dramatic that The Point has been transformed into a stay-and-play jewel.

Initially the chief priority was getting the course right and that has been impressively achieved via a virtual re-design carried out by leading architect Tim Lobb.

The par-72 rolling parkland layout features a splendid variety of holes including some stunning short holes and a spectacular downhill par-4 start to the back nine.

The course upgrade saw The Point collect the ‘Cornwall Golf Mark Club of the Year’ title.

Nowadays you can stay in style too, especially since the opening of seven magnificent state-of-the-art apartments consisting of four three-bedroom and three two-bedroom luxury units in Hilda Close, a short walk from the refurbished restaurant.

It has glorious views, tennis courts and a health club including a refurbished pool area with sauna, eucalyptus steam room and Jacuzzi. Polzeath beach is a 15-minute walk away, too, using public footpaths.

We stayed in ‘Fitzroy’ (which sleeps up to six people) and all apartments feature spacious open-plan living areas with floor to ceiling sliding doors, leading onto sizeable balconies providing views across the course and out to Pentire Point and the sea beyond.

The Point is now a wonderful all-round north Cornwall venue and visiting golfers can now enjoy a fine course, quality accommodation and much-improved practice facilities as well as a cracking new Bear Sports Bar with two large TVS.
