TECH: Three weight tracks (and two 7g weights) in the sole allow customisation of launch, spin, forgiveness and the ability to dial in either a draw or fade bias. A face angle prop lets you decide how you like the club face to look at address, and the forged SP700 titanium face is optimised for ball speed. An eight-position hosel can dial in loft and lie.

WE SAY: Mizuno had no intention of creating a draw driver when they set out to design the GT180. They were focused on making the most adjustable driver on the market. But with a draw weight track closer to the heel than other models, and 14g of weight to position in it, this is a really sensible draw option, too – as long as you’re the owner of an above-average swing speed. Throw in how the faceangle prop on the sole, lets you set up the face to how you like to see it at address and we reckon the GT180 offers a degree of adjustability not on offer from other top models. Thanks to a deeper face, it’s ideally optimised for golfers who have no issue getting shots airborne and swing faster than average.

TOP GEAR VERDICT

Mizuno aren’t the first brand to spring to mind when thinking about draw drivers, but the GT180 is a legitimate offering. At this price and because of the excellent selection of premium shafts available at no upcharge you’d have to be pretty foolish not to take the time to get properly fitted.
