Skoda Karoq

Sorry, Skoda, but your Karoq’s been slimed

- OWEN NORRIS

The TG Karoq stayed in our underground car park when I was away recently, and it seems to be covered in, er, something.

A few jet washes later and barely any of it had come of. What is this crud covering our little Skoda? On closer inspection (by scratching it and a little bit of tasting maybe), it looks to be limescale. So we traced it back to the frst parking spot in the TGHQ bunker. It seems a drain in the ceiling above connected to the fountains outside the BBC building has been leaking when it overfows.

A careful polish later and the paintwork is now gleaming and green again, but the front black plastics seem harder to clear up. My next plan is to experiment with some chemicals to get Rocky (as he is known in our house) back to his shiny best.

Now I’ve had some time driving dayto-day, I’ve found that the driving position isn’t great for me as a 6ft-plus chap. The pedals seem to be too far up the footwell, and I’m having real trouble getting comfy. I get pains in my Achilles’ tendon when I’m on trafc-flled journeys and calf pain on the motorway. Not great.

To alleviate it, I’ve tried pushing the seat right back but then have two problems. One is that the steering wheel doesn’t come out far enough, so that’s a no-go. The other issue is that it leaves barely no room for my children’s legs behind. I’ve tried stunting their growth but it’s not working. I’ll live with it for now and see if I can work around it using the power of espadrilles.
