For the first time in the 10 years I’ve lived here, winter didn’t arrive in Minnesota this year. Instead of
Arctic temperatures and bedding down under several feet of snow and ice, the landscape looks like autumn just kept going. Instead of sledding and snowball fights my kids are kicking a football around (yes, proper football, not American football, people!). As for my 911, rather than making my way through a long list of mods and maintenance jobs during the cold winter months in my heated garage, I’ve been driving! Lots!
I took the precaution of running winter tyres on a second set of wheels that I purchased last year, but in many ways I even feel like that’s overkill this year (although I’m loving the look of these RS Spyder-style rims). I’ve been doing city driving, country driving, solo rides and group drives. As much as I enjoy all the snow and cold weather months here in the Midwest, I’m not complaining.
Besides getting out on the road as much as possible, one thing that I’ve taken care of is my paint and exterior. Having been rather skeptical of all the buzz around ceramic paint protection, I took the plunge via a friend of mine, Reece, who runs a local auto-detailing shop that quite a few of my car friends have used recently: RM Auto Spa in Chaska, MN. Suffice to say, I’m an instant convert. Of course I am! If you know me, you know I get easily excited about stuff like this (and I haven’t even mentioned my new door decals yet – also very exciting), but in all honesty, I’m super impressed with the results.
To be fair, it’s not just the Modesta product that’s given my car a brand new miracle shine – it’s the work that went into the paint correction that Reece did before applying the ceramic solution. I thought the paint was in pretty decent shape when I bought the car, in spite of a few swirl marks that you could see when the light hit the car at the right angle. But wow! I was totally blown away by how clean the car looked when
I picked it up. We’re talking factory fresh, like I dropped off my 90k-mile car and was given back a brand new 911 right off the production line. If you’re thinking about getting paint correction done, even if you’re not sold on the ceramic products, then I highly recommend it.
I’m interested to see what the maintenance looks like now. I’m told the car is going to be much easier to wash and keep clean, which is definitely a bonus for me because I’m ultra-lazy when it comes to keeping my exterior at car-show levels of quality.
