03 Embark on a road trip
We’re big fans of a road trip, and whether it’s with a specific destination in mind or general touring, the possibilities here are only limited by your imagination. Among us here at Total 911 we’ve driven to the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, around Scotland, Ireland, Wales, to Le Mans, Spa and the Nürburgring, up countless alpine passes, explored the south of France and southern Spain, and taken in some epic roads across the USA. If any of these trips are on your bucket list, we can heartily recommend them.
The 911 is the perfect car to undertake your automotive adventures – be it for hours, days, weeks or even months. It’s the ideal tourer with ample luggage capacity, but also an engaging and exciting sports car when your route gets interesting. A road trip is the perfect opportunity to bond with a new purchase or remember why you spend all that money maintaining an old one. You might even decide on a post-trip model change, having exhausted the opportunities with your current 911.
The adventure is in the journey, whether you’re going solo or meeting friends on the way. But don’t just take our word for it – listen to Rob Turl, who we bumped into while in Sweden recently. Turl had just picked up his new Dakar and he epitomises this automotive wanderlust, saying: “I drive all my cars. I use them for what they are: the Touring goes touring, the RS goes on track and the Dakar… well, it doesn’t go to Dakar because it’s too scary down in Dakar, but it’s quite safe up in Norway. We’ve driven up through Sweden, having started by first heading for the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland. When this gets home it’ll have 6,000 miles on it.”
Drive them. That’s what they’re for.
