08 Tune/modify your 911

-

As long as Porsche has been around, enthusiasts have been tuning them to suit their individual requirements, with Porsche itself encouraging you to do so with its own performance parts. Just look at the Manthey-racing options for its GT products. Indeed, from the very early days of the Sports Purpose options from Porsche, the company has actively enabled you to make your Porsche your own, and we’d also encourage you to do so.

Any 911 can be improved, and there are countless companies that’ll help you do exactly that. Whether you’re after more performance via diff„ering turbos, remapped ECUS, a free-breathing and better-sounding exhaust, that’s easily achievable. How about a suspension setup that’s more focused but better riding than the factory set-up? Again, relatively simple, and hugely transformative.

We admit that not everyone’s going to swap out their suspension for coilovers, but modifying your 911 can be something as simple as changing a gearknob – try something cool like a Built by Basil one – or adding a di„fferent steering wheel (we love a MOMO Prototipo in air-cooled 911s). These changes are easy, eff„ective and involve simple bolt-on, bolt-o„ parts that can be returned to stock. How about swapping out your seats for some Sports buckets for greater connection with your 911? Speaking of connection, it’s worth switching to PCCM for air-cooled cars, and PCCM Plus for 996 onwards, which will bring you better sat-nav mapping, Apple Carplay and more.

Whether you’re a stickler for OEM parts or happy with aftermarket additions, the 911 is a car that lends itself to being personalised, for how it drives, looks and feels. They’re all the better for it.
