Dduallt & Rhobell Fawr
1 SH788292 At the road go right, descending over the bridge. Rise through a gate and continue right of a house. Follow the track and before it passes through a ruined wall leave it right, crossing a stile. Go ahead to go right of a fence corner. Keep the fence up left, continuing along the hillside. Pass through two walls, following the fence to bend right and pass through a gate. Take the track and stay left at the next fork. Near a farmhouse stay by the fence right to just before a gate. Cut back left, rising to curve right. Climb the track, passing through a wall. Follow the track to soon descend and continue to reach a river and fording point.
2 SH808291 Cross the ford, taking the rising track beyond through a gate. Continue to a fence. Go right, following the fence and climbing steadily to cross a stile. Continue by the fence and as the angle eases before outcrops, cross the fence left to visit Dduallt’s summit cairn.
3 SH810273 Re-cross the fence, going left. Shortly, as the fence bends left, go half right, following a faint path, heading down rocky steps roughly south-westerly. As the path fades aim for a point before where the forest below bends right. Descend to reach this point. Follow the forest, and when it bends right go ahead, following a faint path to cross difficult ground, descending to rejoin the forest again further down. Follow the forest to a fence corner where it bends right. Go right, crossing a stile. Descend by the forest, crossing a stream to rise and cross a stile where the forest bends left. Take the path ahead through the forest. At a post follow the arrow to continue through the forest to reach a track.
4 SH799257 Go left until you reach a gate, right, with a wall coming down the hillside. Go right through the gate. Take a path that soon cuts left and climbs the hillside with the wall on the left. Drop over a stream, taking the path ahead and keeping the wall left. Follow the wall, going left of a rock buttress up a gully higher up. Continue by the wall and as the angle eases continue by a fence only, crossing a stile in a corner. Continue by a wall, crossing over a path crossroads by a broken wall section. Just before the angle steepens go left at a path crossroads, passing through the wall. Follow the path over a stile. Go half left to the summit of Rhobell Fawr.
5 SH786256 Re-trace your steps back to re-cross the wall. Go ahead on a path, heading northerly and staying left when it splits. When the path fades, cut half right towards the forest and wall. At the wall cut left, descending beside it over a fence. Descend by the wall to a point where the forest bends half right. Go ahead over trackless ground, picking up a fence again at the other side of the gap. Here cross left over a stream, going ahead and keeping out left away from the fence to find drier ground. Follow the fence, curving right past Foel Gron and curving left to a wall corner and sheep folds. Pass through two gates, continuing ahead and descending towards the forest. As you near the forest and river take a faint path downhill with the river right. Follow the path to curve left, watching for the point when it cuts back right to follow it and go left on a track. Follow this through four gate openings back to the parking area.
