…and proofing them
Even if you have full-grain leather boots or footwear with a waterproof membrane, it’s best to apply a proofing product every once in a while to ensure they’re repelling moisture effectively. Boots with a membrane can still sponge up water on their surfac
1 Ensure your footwear is clean and dry. Wax or cream can be used on leather boots to maximise water repellency. This can be worked in with a cloth and left to dry; it also conditions the leather. 2 Fabric, suede or nubuck boots will require a footwear proofer. Some proofers are suitable for all footwear, while others are specifically designed for suede and nubuck, so check the label. 3 Once cleaned, conditioned and proofed, leave your boots to dry away from direct heat. Pretty soon they’ll be ready for whatever you can throw at them on your next foray.
