Fabric-wise, these are made from quite a heavy-duty, durable polycotton mix which benefits from SmartDry water- and stain-resistant treatments, as well as a Solarshield protection against UV rays and a NosiDefence construction to help protect you against mosquitoes. Along with an elasticated and belted waist, there are two zipped, hidden pockets inside the main hip pockets, which is good for travel security. The thigh pocket also gets a mobile phone pocket inside. Maps can be stowed in the leg pocket and just about fit into the hip pockets, too. There are two more zipped rear pockets, which are handy.

A high percentage of cotton results in this fabric being slow to dry, as well as making this trouser heavy compared to others. There’s no stretch either and the cut is less fitted, which makes the Kiwi a little baggy and flappy around the legs. This makes it less ideal for trekking but fine for more relaxed travel. There are no ankle zips, so it’s boots off when you want to remove the lower legs.

A low-priced trouser that has great pockets, but is heavy and lacks some benefits of others.
