Keela

Paraguay / Rio

-

£55 n Men’s 28-44; three leg lengths (Paraguay) n Women’s 8-20; three leg lengths (Rio) n Weight 431g (size 34R) n Material Stretch-Tec (96% nylon, 4% spandex)

Like many Keela products, this packs a mighty punch for your hardearned pound. You get two-way stretch fabric based around nylon for more durability; the waist is elasticated and there’s a pre-fitted belt to accommodate a range of body sizes more easily than some, and there’s also three leg lengths for men and women. The two main hip pockets swallow an OS map easily, and each thigh features a narrow, vertical-zipped pocket for a phone or GPS receiver. I also like the rear zipped pocket and hidden zipped pocket inside the hip pocket for security when travelling.

The fit is slightly more relaxed in the leg than others which makes this trouser a little flappy when walking, so you may get mud on them more easily and they may snag on undergrowth, so they’re better for paths rather than moorland or crags. There’s no ankle zip, and the thigh zips for removing the legs are not quite as neatly protected as higher-priced designs. They’re good for the money, but more cash brings slight benefits.

A good set of pockets and stretch fabric for this price is great, but small details irritate if you want absolute perfection.
