IT'S GOOD

The latest update of the classic Hogan design features a bright external frame from which the outer is suspended with a bungee cord system. This works exceptionally well, making it quick and easy to pitch outer-first. The front door has three zip pullers so you can open it from either side, or open it from the top or open it completely away. Internal space is good as the sides are quite steep and it doesn’t taper too badly toward the rear, so two people can sit up pretty easily.

HOWEVER

There’s only one entrance, so storage space is a little less than some two-door options. You can get far more living space in some tents with more box-shaped inners, and the flysheet doesn’t hug the ground too well, so crosswind-driven rain will creep into the edges of the porch. Material-wise, you are getting polyester rather than the ripstop nylon of higher-priced tents. Obviously, all these drawbacks need to be considered alongside the price compared to others.

VERDICT

An easy-to-pitch outer-first, stable and spacious backpacking tent, but you can get even more space and lower weight elsewhere.
