IT'S GOOD

The Elixir 2 has an inner tent with steep sides and little slope to the roof, so you get far more useable living space than tents with similar floor plans (you could have four people sitting up inside this tent!). Also, you benefit from a porch and entrance on each side of the tent, with each porch easily taking a couple of packs. Pitching is easy as the poles are colour-coded and you get ladder-lock adjustment. I like that the doors can be opened from the top or bottom as they have double zip pulls. All these features for the weight and price is excellent.

HOWEVER

Being an inner-first pitched design, the inside is wet before you get the fly over when putting it up in really wet weather. Also, the flysheet does not hug the ground so wind-driven rain may creep under it into the porch – particularly on more uneven ground. The inner also has a lot of mesh, so it’s not the warmest tent and condensation can drip through the mesh roof of the inner. Finally, it’s made from polyester rather than a more tearresistant nylon as used on some higher-priced designs.
