Mammut Creon Pro 40/Crea Pro 38

-

£130 Capacity 40 litres/38 litres Back sizes adjustable (men’s Creon Pro 40); adjustable (women’s Crea Pro 38) Weight 1302g

This is a well-priced lightweight rucksack made with nylon. It provides a 40-litre capacity for the men’s version and the floating lid design means you can extend this. The back system can be adjusted by raising or lowering the shoulder straps. There is a trampoline mesh panel to hold the pack away from the body for more airflow and this sits comfortably on the back. The body has top lid and base compartment zipped entry, with side zipped entry, too. Pockets are located on the lid, the front of the pack and on one hipbelt fin, plus you can stash items on the side thanks to quick-release compression straps and mesh side pockets.

The women’s closest version is only 38 litres but you can extend this by raising the lid so you can get about 40 litres in total. You get a floating lid, which fits better than most, but some care is still needed to ensure it’s sitting properly on the pack to prevent it slipping forward. Some packs have a big mesh stash pocket, which you don’t get here, and others have pockets on both hipbelt fins, rather than just on the left side as here. Others rucksacks are slightly lighter if you are counting grams and some are lower in price, while others have more capacity. Not a lot wrong with the Creon/Crea Pro, though.

A lightweight pack with good airflow making this good for overnight trips, although other packs have extra small benefits that you may favour.
