Mammut Kento / Keiko Light SO Hooded

-

£110 Men’s S-XXL (Kento Light SO Hooded) Women’s XS-XL (Keiko Light SO Hooded) Weight 276g (size L) Material Mammut SOFTtech (100% polyester face); 100% polyurethane membrane; 100% polyester lining; side inserts 87% polyester, 13% elastane

Your front, back and outside of shoulders are well protected from wind and rain, which is great for walking through wind and light drizzle. The fit is very close but as this is so thin and stretchy you get great freedom of movement without a hint of the cuffs riding up. Two well-placed pockets on the front allow access above a rucksack belt and take an OS map. If you want lightweight wind and drizzle protection, this is the ideal soft shell.

As the sides are less water- and windresistant than the front or back the conditions you can use this in and stay comfortable are slightly limited. Also the hood has no adjustment and does not fit as close to or move with the head as well as other higher-priced designs. There is no cuff adjustment either, so you cannot lock out draughts easily. This soft shell is not very ‘toasty’ as it has no insulation, so relies on your mid layers to stay warm, but as the fit is so close this does mean there is limited space for insulation. It’s one of those jackets that is perfect for specific situations, but is less of an all rounder.

Its limited to a more narrow window of conditions than other designs.
