This 3-layer, laminated, eco-friendly, soft shell material comprises a membrane to improve water and wind resistance with a tough outer layer to resist abrasion. It’s quite stretchy and snug, and longer than other jackets here. The hood fits exceptionally well with a stiffened peak and outstanding movement. Two main

chest pockets are placed well above hipbelts and take an OS map with ease. A third chest pocket is useful for a GPS receiver, but too small for much else. Pit zips are provided for additional airflow when needed.

I found the cuffs tended to ride up a little too easily to be absolutely perfect for scrambling, although other soft shell jackets suffered from the same problem. This is slightly heavy, so you would not want to be packing this into your rucksack to often. The outer face of the material is polyester rather than more durable nylon so, while this is

strong, it is not the toughest option. The men’s price tag is high, but the women’s at £145 is better.

A very good soft shell jacket for damp and windy conditions when scrambling or mountaineering, thanks to features such as great pockets and a superb hood.
