JETBOIL FLASH COOKING SYSTEM £110

If you’re a longterm Trail subscriber you may think me a little slow off the mark. Having somehow missed the hundreds given away as a subscription gift a few years ago, a Jetboil was not something I had come across. Lukewarm, slightly off-tasting flask tea was as far as my world of on-the-hill hot beverages had extended.

Jetboil acquired, it came with a mystique; a kind of badge of honour for hardened mountain folk, with a penchant for fresh coffee. But what was this strange, slightly Darth Vaderesque utensil? And what was all the fuss about? Suffice to say, I’ve been enlightened. Jetboil is all-in-one cup/saucepan/ gas stove for one person. It’s called a Jetboil for a very good reason: it had boiled my large cup of water before I’d even had a chance to decant the sachet of hot chocolate! Aside from being impressively fast, it has a pushbutton ignitor and is big enough to stuff a camp meal pouch into for heating, too. It’s relatively light, compact, and totally worth the space in my rucksack.

Great for everything from a quick car park cuppa, to a wild camp evening meal.
