£140 Men’s S-XXL Women’s 8-16 Weight 498g (size M) Materials Schoeller 3XDry (91% nylon, 9% elastane); Schoeller Keprotec (73% nylon, 14% PU, 13% Kevlar)
IT'S GOOD
The main fabric is very tough and ideal for cooler conditions on the mountains, providing a combination of wind and water resistance. There is also good stretch, so they are great for scrambles and rockier terrain. For additional durability, there’s more reinforcement at the ankle cuff from Schoeller Keprotec. In terms of fit, the material is stretch and you get a stretchy waistband with a soft lining, plus a belt. A zip with a gusset allows the ankle to calf area to be adjusted and there are three zipped pockets on the front of the trousers. Overall, good for hillwalking.
HOWEVER
Those three pockets are a little small for OS maps so other trousers are better if you like to carry a lot and have easy access to your maps. Also, in terms of fit, you don’t get any leg length options, so shorter or taller people may find a better fit elsewhere. The fit is closer than others I found which is great for scrambling, but you may prefer looser more relaxed trousers for walking or backpacking. The material is close fit, and if they get wet they feel a little colder than others that have a little more airflow. Surprisingly there is no reinforcement at the knees or seat.
VERDICT
Great trouser for scrambling and tough mountain days including battling through the snow, but backpackers may want some different features.
