£175 Men’s 29-42 plus 2 leg lengths Women’s 6-20 plus 2 leg lengths and 2 fits Weight 647g (size 33-34) Materials G1000 (65% polyester, 35% cotton), Stretch fabric (63% nylon, 26% polyester, 11% elastane)

IT'S GOOD

Made from a combination of hardwearing G1000 that can be treated with wax to increase water resistance and stretch nylon for comfort. You also get a good size and fit range, with the women’s coming in both regular and ‘curved'. For backpacking, the big thigh pockets with top entry take a map easily, but you also get massive hip pockets which take an OS map with ease, too. I also like that the tough G1000 fabric is on the front of knees and around the ankle cuff for max durability. Zipped vents at the thigh and calf allow for more airflow. There is some webbing adjustment at the ankle cuff to nip it in.

HOWEVER

The price tag is very high and yet these do lack some details found on other trousers. For example, the waistband has belt loops, but no soft brushed lining and no elastication, although the stretch fabric is fitted just below the waistband. At the ankle cuff you have some adjustment but others offer a zipped gusset for a closer, tapered fit. The trousers with full stretch fabric throughout have a closer fit that would be better for climbing and mountaineering. So, these are great for backpacking but don’t have all the benefits offered by some of the others.

VERDICT

Great backpacking trouser, but for mountaineering or scrambling others have more benefits and better prices.
