Ben Ledi & Benvane

-

NN549062 Take a 1 path, right, beside the A821. After 130m, it crosses the main road to a track just above. Turn left, winding uphill, to a gravelled bike track. Turn left (on the Great Trossachs Trail). Soon, the path dips towards a footbridge.

NN550068 Here a 2 sparsely waymarked path turns off uphill. It heads up to the right of the stream, to the 370m contour. Here it bends left, across the top of the stream, slanting gently uphill north-west. At the next stream, the path turns off left over the stream, marked by two waymarks. It slants up roughly north, to a ladder stile at NN552080. Head uphill, north-east, onto the ridgeline above. Turn left, following a fence remnant to the summit of Stuc Odhar.

Continue down north-east, following fence remnants. At a small col just above the ridge foot turn down right to cross Milton Burn. Head up east, joining a slanty grassy terrace with a stream. The terrace line deposits you on the south-west ridge of Ben Ledi at the minor hump called Meall Odhar. Here you turn left up a large and partly reconstructed ridge path to Ben Ledi summit.

NN562097 4

Head north-west then north down the narrow ridge. At its end, ignore a path down the north corner, but fork left, down a line of old iron fence posts which guide to Benvane. At the ridge foot keep ahead over a low rise; then the path passes to the left of the small Lochan nan Corp. The path and old fence rise gently to pass to right of the hummock Bioran na Circe then descend gently along the broad ridge to cross the 604m col. Just before this col, a short-cut track runs down to the left.

NN550127 Keep 5 ahead to Point 711m. From there, follow the fence and small path west, but as they bend left again bear off right, to contour rough grass across the head of a stream onto Benvane's south-east ridge. Head up to the summit.

NN535137 The old 6 fence is just down south-west of the summit. Follow it south, then south-east to a corner on Meall a' Choire Dhuibh. Keep ahead, south, down the long ridge. After a level peaty section, head down the steep ridge end to a fence and through the gate at

NN535102, head down towards Finglas Reservoir, to join a track arriving from the left. Follow it down to join the reservoir-side track just west of Allt Ghleann Casaig. NN530092 Turn left 7 over the stream. The track passes houses, then rises into woods above the reservoir. After 400m in the woods, a gravelled bike path turns up left. It runs through a pair of gates, then bends right to contour above the deer fence. It runs in the open for just over 1km, with views over Glen Finglas, then dips into woods to a bridge. Immediately after this, a short path leads down to a waterfall view.

NN544070 Return to 8 continue on the main path. After another 150m, stay on the main path, downhill to the right. Soon it forks again; the left hand one is grassier. At the valley floor these two rejoin, to cross a bridge to a car park. Turn left, to a woodland path running alongside the A821 to Lendrick Steading. Follow its access track out to the main road, crossing to Little Drum car park.
