Can I drink too much?

Yes! It is possible to over- hydrate, and guzzling excessive amounts of water is called hyponatrem­ia or water intoxicati­on. This can cause your body to flush out too much sodium and other vital minerals from your bloodstrea­m, and the consequenc­es can be as dangerous as dehydratio­n. So, if you’re on a lengthy strenuous walk, especially on a hot day and only drinking water, make sure you pack some salty snacks (pretzels and peanuts are good) and maybe a sports drink powder to add to your water.
