From the end of Glen Road, on the outskirts of Peebles just before the entrance into Gypsy Glen, turn right onto a private road (walkers welcome), and follow this south towards Haystoun. The road makes its way through peaceful woodland with great views ahead extending towards the broad flanks of Hundleshope Heights. Keep on the road to pass the scattering of large, attractive houses at Haystoun and a lovely lochan. The impressive old mansion house of Haystoun was built in the mid 16th century and then extensively developed during the 17th and 18th centuries when it was the country seat of the Hay Family of Peebles. Continue into Glensax, with the hills of the Glensax Horseshoe enclosing the glen, eventually reaching the farm of Upper Newby.
