Once past the farm and a small wood, turn right from the road and climb a steep embankment, keeping the wood to your right. This leads on to a ridge below the ominously titled Dead Side. Bear left from where a broad, grassy path rises gradually south, before ascending more steeply south-west onto Dead Side. Even at this modest height (around 450m) the view is superb, especially north over Peebles and east across the narrow defile of Glensax onto the sharp slopes of Kailzie Hill, Kirkhope Law and Dun Rig, the highest point of the Glensax Horseshoe.
