Benalder Cottage
NN371670 Turn 1 left out of the hostel and follow the track north- east along the southern shore of Loch Ossian. At the eastern end of the loch stay left until you cross the bridge and reach Corrour Shooting Lodge.
2 NN413696 Turn right here, leaving the main track and heading north- east on a smaller path to the right of the buildings. Cross the river again and follow the path to the right across another stream to reach a footbridge over Uisge Labhair. Turn right after the bridge and follow the path eastwards along the northern bank of the river.
NN460721 The 3 defined path ends at a ford across the river, although many smaller tracks carry on. Cross the river and follow vague paths south- east, ascending across a section of open moorland until you hit the path heading out of the Bealach Dubh and into Bealach Cumhann –m beaelaancihng ‘saddle’ or ‘pass’.
4 NN466717 Turn right onto this path and follow it down Bealach Cumhann in a south- easterly direction above the Alder Burn to reach Benalder Cottage (also known as McCook’s Cottage after a former resident of 40 years) – a bothy maintained by the Mountain Bothies Association (www. mountainbothies.org.uk). Stay at the bothy or, if it’s full, there are plenty of wonderful wild camping spots locally.
