Invermoriston to Drumnadrochit

-

NH420168 From the 1 Post Office in Invermoriston, head out along the A887 before turning right at the Clog and Craft shop. Follow the lane gently uphill as it bears left before heading more steeply uphill via a series of zigzags. After crossing a bridge over a stream turn immediately right into a forest track and cross over the same stream again. Follow the forest track until a junction is reached.

NH422171 Take the 2 path to the left that leads uphill through trees to another junction at a stone wall. Turn right and keep climbing following the top edge of the forestry with a field to the left before winding down steeply and crossing a bridge. The path now climbs again and joins a forest track, turn left and continue climbing through a felled area passing the unmissable Viewcatcher Sculpture. Continue ahead on the path past the small hill of Meall Doire Bhrath. After cresting the rise, the path begins to descend into the forested glen of Allt Saigh to meet a track. Turn left along the track which soon leads to a concrete bridge.

NH437192 From 3 the bridge the path curves round to the right and heads in an easterly direction until an obvious Great Glen Way marker points to a path on the left. Follow the path steeply uphill climbing zigzags through the trees. The path now leaves the forest running parallel to a large fence and continues easterly crossing the curiously named Troll bridge. After crossing this bridge the path climbs very steeply once more to reach a curved stone shelter and excellent viewpoint. The route continues and passes around the slopes of Creag Dhearg before a zigzag descent to a curved stone seat sculpture. Turn left and follow the track across the hillside and enjoy the stunning views of Loch Ness. Continue onwards passing a junction until eventually the track turns into a path and passes through a metal gate when it then curves back left through woods and descends to cross a stream before passing through another gate up to the road at Grotaig.

NH491238 Turn 4 right and follow an off-road path on the left side of the narrow road in a north-easterly direction. Continue to follow the off-road path which rejoins the road as it crosses the moorland plateau passing isolated farms and houses and latterly Ancarraig lodges. The road undulates over the heather moorland (which can be bleak in bad weather) before heading gently downhill. Shortly after passing a lone house called Woodend turn left, signposted for the Great

Glen

Way. NH510280 Pass 5 through a gate and follow the track downhill for a very short distance and then bear right on a path which heads steeply downhill through woodland. Drumnadrochit soon comes into view and after veering right, where another trail leaves to the left, pass by Clunebeg Lodge and follow the River Coiltie to the main road. Turn left onto the A82 and follow the pavement into Drumnadrochit.
