Nemo Hornet 1P £380
Nemo’s Hornet 1P is a backpacking tent for ultralight enthusiasts. At just 905g, it offers superb features and volume for its weight, almost like a stripped-down, lighter version of the MSR Hubba NX Solo.
A single, wishbone pole creates a fin-shaped design, and an ingenious ‘flybar’ (a wide clip positioned at 90° to the main pole) pulls at the inner’s mesh canopy from either side to widen the peak and increase headroom. Two corner struts at the foot end similarly increase the living space, while volumemaximising guyouts – which connect the inner to the fly – peg out to pull the tent’s sidewalls outwards. Consequently the raised tub style inner is impressively roomy. Its mesh upper also features a nifty roof pocket for transforming your headtorch into a tent lantern.
The 10-denier, 1200mmrated flysheet, meanwhile, has a single door, good-sized porch and is robust enough for 3-season use, especially when optional guylines are used.
IF WE’RE BEING FUSSY There is one big flaw here: to save weight the flysheet has large cut-outs, meaning it isn’t flush to the ground and the (albeit waterproof) inner is exposed – this could be problematic in very wet weather. Inner first pitching is inconvenient too.

Verdict
Ideal for gram-counting backpackers, the Hornet is impressively spacious and feature-rich for the weight.
