NY306010 From the car park walk up the lane to the farm at High Tilberthwaite and take the left-hand gate. Follow the well-made track uphill through trees and over open rocky ground. Go through two gates, walk over the crest of the hill and head down to the next gate, with views north to Little Langdale Tarn.

2

NY305028 Fork left at a squat hawthorn tree and take the rough track to cross a stile next to a locked gate. Now leave the track and go right to a footbridge over Greenburn Beck.

3

NY294023 Walk up the start of the grassy ridge and continue uphill until the path levels out. Walk onto a rocky outcrop and take the path up to the next part of the ridge (named High End). Continue ahead over a series of ups and downs, now bearing south, and gradually climb to the cairn on Great Carrs. Continue ahead over

4

NY272005 Leave the summit by walking east to rocky ground and descend the rough spur known as Prison Band, with a large cairn at the bottom of the slope. Go straight over and continue on a well-used path to the top of Wetherlam.

5

NY287011 Leave the summit by walking north-east to rocky ground, followed by a steep scrambling descent down Wetherlam Edge to Birkfell Hause. From here you can quickly romp up Birk Fell then return to the path leading south, via zigzags and some stone steps, to a scattering of larch trees next to a cairn by an old wall.

6

NY296015 Turn left here, overlooking a broad marshy hollow, and walk down more steps to a small ruined building. Join a good path, engineered as part of the former quarry workings, and continue along the side of the valley to cross a small stream. Continue to a junction and go sharp right to cross a footbridge. Turn left, cross a stream and go left again on a path which descends to pass the dramatic quarry workings at Tilberthwaite, where gaps on the right give views into the deep chasm. Pass slate spoil on the left and walk down steps to return to the car park.
