BOU 50 MAKES IT IN AUSTRIA

- ARTICLE: JOHN HULME

Once again it was a very impressive night in the Arena Nova Stadium at Wiener Neustadt, situated to the South of Vienna, as the undisputed king of indoor trials Toni Bou scored his 50th win on the Repsol Honda. Try as he might, Adam Raga on the TRS had no answer to the supreme display from his fellow countryman as Albert Cabestany made it an all-Spanish podium.

The fight for the victory at round two of the four-round 2017 X-Trial World Championship once again proceeded through the qualifying process, to put the four main players in this year’s series to battle it out for victory over the six manmade hazards and the dual lane race. In the eight rider qualifying it looked like Great Britain’s James Dabill would make the breakthrough into the final, but it was not to be as Albert Cabestany used all his experience to just edge out the Gas Gas rider. Once the final was under way it soon became obvious – as he took the only clean ride on section one – that Toni Bou would be on his way to another victory, as Jeroni Fajardo failed in every attempt at the six sections and the severe nature of the hazards proved too much for the best of the rest behind the world’s number one rider.
