BTC 2017: Who’s next?

- WORDS AND STATISTICS: JOHN HULME • PICTURES: TRIAL MAGAZINE

When we started Trial Magazine here in the UK in 2007, the British Championship series was in the middle of a domination by Graham Jarvis. Off the back of a very successful world championship career the quiet, likeable rider had shown his skills on both two- and four-stroke machinery to win the series from 2005–2008. As is well documented, Graham Jarvis moved from trials to SuperEnduro to carve out a new off-road career, one he is still very much at the top of. A new generation of young riders were queuing up to take his crown including James Dabill and Michael Brown in the British Championship. Dabill would be the most successful, taking the title from 2009 (with Brown interrupting proceedings in 2013 before Dabill regained it in 2014). At the end of 2016 James Dabill moved to Gas Gas and the defending British Champion announced he would not be contesting the home series. Is it time for a new generation of riders to come through to give us a new British Trials Champion, or will the old school continue to dominate?
