Tom Taylor on the turmoil facing DOCTOR FOSTER’S off-the-rails son…
AS THE THRILLING second series of Doctor Foster heads towards an epic finale next week, the bitter feud between vengeful GP Gemma (Suranne Jones) and her ex-husband, Simon (Bertie Carvel), is gathering pace as they each continue to vie for the upper hand.
However, the one person who has been bearing the brunt of their hatred has been their son, Tom.
TEEN TROUBLES
‘Like any other teenager, he gets frustrated and rebellious,’ says Tom Taylor, 16, who plays the teen. ‘But we have also seen how he has been affected by his parents’ relationship.
‘It’s darker than the first series and we’ve probed a lot more into his mind. He has been in trouble for hitting his friend and is going off the rails because he doesn’t know what is going on any more. Now, his parents are finally realising they have been selfish – but is it too late?’
The young actor, whose previous credits include The Last Kingdom and Taboo, has been delighted with the reaction to the second series and reveals there are more
twists and turns to come.
BRIGHT FUTURE
‘There has been a lot more upset this time,’ says Taylor. ‘I hope viewers will be very pleased with the ending.’ While tensions among the Fosters are reaching new heights, off-screen things couldn’t be more different between them.
‘Suranne has really looked out for me, as has Bertie,’ says Taylor, who’s in no doubt the show has been a launchpad for his career.
‘It’s been great training,’ he adds, ‘It will really help me in the future.’
Taylor is certainly clocking up credits on his CV. He recently made his big-screen debut in blockbuster The Dark Tower, alongside Idris Elba and Matthew Mcconaughey.
‘Shooting that in Cape Town was incredible,’ he says. ‘I was playing someone who has visions of crazy universes. Idris and I had a real laugh on set because we’re both geezers from London.’
