Love IS THE DRUG
Romance is all around as the GREY SLOAN MEMORIAL doctors return
AS FANS OF Grey’s Anatomy know, complicated love lives go hand-in-hand with heartpounding surgical procedures.
As the medical drama returns for its 15th series this week, expect more pulse-raising romance with the action picking up the day after the season finale. ‘We’re dubbing this “the season of love,”’ says the show’s executive producer Krista Vernoff.
Here, we look at what’s in store for the surgeons…
MEREDITH’S DATING AGAIN
Since her husband Derek died, Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) has had some romance in her life, but there hasn’t been anyone special. Could that change for the mother-of-three this season?
‘People who lose their spouses do want to find love again,’ says Pompeo, whose new two-year $20million contract makes her TV’S highest-paid dramatic actress.
There are several possibilities at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, including new surgeon Atticus ‘Link’ Lincoln, played by Nashville’s Chris Carmack, and surgical resident Andrew Deluca (Giacomo Gianniotti) who drunkenly kissed Meredith in the season finale.
‘Dating is complicated, you don’t always fall for the first person you sit across from,’ says Vernoff.
OWEN’S LOVE TRIANGLE
Dr Owen Hunt (Kevin Mckidd) has rediscovered his feelings for his ex-wife, Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and she’s helping him look after his baby foster son Leo. What Owen doesn’t know is that Dr Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) is pregnant with what could be his child following their night of passion three months ago.
‘It’s not going to be a traditional love triangle situation,’ explains Mckidd. ‘It’s really complicated.’
MAGGIE AND JACKSON’S NEW OBSTACLE
Dr Maggie Pierce (Kelly Mccreary) and Dr Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams) have overcome some hurdles in their romance and now tensions arise with his newfound faith in God. ‘They’re doing a lot of growing up together,’ explains Mccreary. ‘jackson is starting a new phase of his life.’
ALEX AND JO SETTLE INTO MARRIED LIFE
Dr Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) and Dr Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) have had some ups and downs in their relationship but they finally tied the knot.
‘At the beginning of the season you see Jo and Alex on their honeymoon and she finally feels she has a family,’ says Luddington. ‘Jo also becomes inspired about a new medical innovation and wants to pursue it with Meredith.’
