COMING UP Trumps

A hilarious look at life in the WHITE HOUSE

-

COMEDY Our Cartoon President Tuesday, Sky Comedy HD, 9.35pm

RARELY OUT OF the headlines since he was elected US President in 2016, Donald Trump has provided plenty of material for comedians looking to take a satirical swipe at his turbulent time in the White House.

One of the funniest shows is US animation series Our Cartoon President, which returns for a third series on Sky Comedy this week to poke fun at the President, his family and political entourage, including First Lady Melania, daughter Ivanka, sons Eric and Donald Jr, as well as Vice President Mike Pence.

‘When we started, we most certainly did not expect the Trump presidency to be this reckless and disturbing,’ says showrunner RJ Fried. ‘The world feels more

cartoonish than ever and our show gets away with a lot because of the animated format. We get edgier and edgier with every season.’

Executive produced by chatshow host Stephen Colbert, the new run begins with an episode about the recent impeachment proceedings, while later episodes in the series see the President start his own G7 alliance of ruthless dictators and begin writing a book called My Struggle.

‘We also see his advisers task Elon Musk to create an Oval Office simulator to distract him, so he does less harm,’ reveals Fried.

New characters this year include billionaire Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and Boris Johnson, voiced by Little Britain’s Matt Lucas.

The series also makes fun of other figures across the political spectrum, including Democrat candidate Joe Biden as well as Trump’s rival Hillary Clinton, who is persuaded to launch yet another run for the presidency.

‘I’ve gotten hate tweets from Republicans, I’ve gotten hate tweets from Democrats,’ says Fried. ‘We don’t mind getting in trouble, but we make sure we’re covering both sides.’
