Harry Potter proportions from Irish author Eoin Colfer’s best-selling children’s books about a 12-year-old criminal mastermind who discovers a secret fairy world. Directed by Kenneth Branagh (his mind clearly on other things), the movie isn’t dire, just thoroughly bland - and thoroughly at odds with the spirit of the books. And the roguish anti-hero Artemis Fowl (played by Ferdia Shaw) just comes across here as a smug little brat. 2020, PG, 95MIN
