COMING SOON
CHECK OUT THIS FIRST exciting shot from Hilary Swank’s powerful new space drama Away, available on Netflix from Friday 4 September.
The 10-part series, executiveproduced by Friday Night Lights creator Jason Katims, sees Swank as spirited US astronaut and former Navy pilot Emma Green, who has to leave her family behind for three years to lead an international space crew making the first mission to Mars.
But Emma’s decision to take part in the highly complex project sits heavily on her because her husband Matt Logan (Josh Charles), a NASA engineer working on the mission on the ground, faces a huge crisis as he raises their teenage daughter Lex (Talitha Bateman) alone.
Meanwhile, during their increasingly challenging journey to Mars, the rest of Emma’s crew also have problems of their own as they struggle to deal with being thrown together.
While Indian fighter pilot Ram Arya (Ray Panthaki), Emma’s right-hand man and the crew’s medic, is alone in the world, egotistical Russian engineer Misha Popov (Mark Ivanir) contemplates what he has left behind, religious British-ghanaian botanist Kwesi Weisberg-adebayo (Ato Essandoh) wants to cultivate life on Mars and Chinese chemist Lu Wang (Vivian Wu) has issues in her personal life.
‘We are so excited for this adventure in space,’ explains showrunner Jessica Goldberg, who has co-created the drama with Andrew Hinderaker.
