Hearing a certain song can often take you back to a particular time or place. But what if that could happen literally? You can find out in new romantic drama The Greatest Hits, which lands on Disney+ this week.

A tale of time travel, lost love and moving on, The Greatest Hits follows Harriet (Lucy Boynton), who survived the same car crash that killed her boyfriend Max (David Corenswet) two years earlier. As Harriet continues to mourn, something strange starts happening – whenever she hears a song that reminds her of Max, she’s transported back in time to the very moment they first listened to it together.

‘During the flashbacks and time-travel moments, we see glimpses of who Harriet is and who she was – this sensitive, interesting, colourful person with such a bright future ahead,’ says Boynton. ‘This grief has really stripped her of those colours.’

RELIVING PAST ROMANCE

Obsessed with her ability to travel back in time – a lasting effect of the serious head injury she sustained in the accident – Harriet enjoys a string of romantic ‘reunions’ with Max, while, back in the real world, she strikes up a bond with David (Justin H. Min), a kind-hearted man from her local grief support group.

However, Harriet’s struggling to move forward and hopes her ‘superpower’ can help her find the right song, taking her back to the right moment, to rewrite the past and prevent Max’s death. But can new love interest David get Harriet living in the present?

Boynton understands how music can evoke strong emotions, but what’s her own greatest hit?

‘Bob Dylan’s Boots of Spanish Leather is probably my go-to song – it’s very nostalgic and personal for me,’ reveals The Ipcress File star, who was given a musical memento of her time on the movie. ‘When we wrapped filming, I was given a stack of vinyl records that we’d used around the set. They are treasured by my character, so it’s really sentimental.’
