The rover returns

-

e’s an alcoholic bigamist who’ll sleep with anything in a skirt and whose selfishness knows no bounds. Boy, are we glad to have Peter Barlow back!

Sporting a gash on his head – but still looking hot – he turns up unannounced from Portsmouth, just as Ken is preparing to head off on a European adventure.

And no one’s dashing out to buy a ‘Welcome Home’ banner.

Says Chris Gascoyne, last on the cobbles for Deirdre’s funeral in 2015: ‘Peter was supposed to come back for Simon’s football presentation and he didn’t. So everyone is saying,

“You failed to come back when you promised, yet you show up now – what are you after?”

‘He says he’s back after being sacked from crewing the ships due to a fall-out with a guy. That’s possibly true, but it’s not the real reason.’

Ken suspects something fishy’s going on, especially as Peter fails to give him a straight answer as to how he got his injury. Even so, he allows his son to stay at number one while he’s away. But his suspicions are confirmed when, as Ken’s about to leave on his trip, he catches Peter behaving shiftily.

Explains Chris: ‘Ken’s cab is booked for 2am, and when he gets up, Peter isn’t in.

Peter then returns and Ken asks him where he’s been and accuses him of drinking. Peter says he’s been to see someone about a job, and Ken calls him a liar.’

As a row breaks out, the tension escalates and then ‘bam!’, disaster strikes. Shockwaves ripple through the Barlow family and Tracy blames her brother for everything. But what, exactly, has happened?

Peter Barlow is back in Weatherfield, but why?

It’s not just killer Clayton who’s in court this week – so’s Craig, who, as a witness to Kylie’s murder, is called to give evidence. Beth is desperate to support her son, but knows it’s out of the question as she’s due to start her community service on the same day. That is, until she comes up with a plan... Cue Mary to pop on her neighbour’s orange tabard and masquerade as the bigamist knicker-stitcher. At court, Craigy’s delighted to see his mum in the public gallery, but as he stands in the witness box, he’s not the only one facing some tough questions. Mary’s stopped in her tracks when the community supervisor asks her to sign Beth’s work sheet. How will she get out of this one?
