Merseygirls (formerly Just Us)
Dance troupe
The five-strong group, made up of sisters Alice,
17, and Julia, 15, and their friends
Poppy, 14, Rebecca,
16, and Annie, 17, met at their local dance school in The Wirral. Their first audition was tinged with sadness after
Julia revealed she suffers from scoliosis (curvature of the spine), and is having surgery soon, meaning she’ll no longer be able to dance at the same level again. Alesha says: ‘When you’re passionate about something, I couldn’t imagine not being able to ever do that again.’ Merseygirls say: ‘It’s so surreal, because we’re just normal girls – we never thought anything like this would happen to us. Everyone has been so supportive and people who used to get bullied about their back are now going to school with their back braces and are talking about it because of Julia’s scoliosis. We’re really excited
to show our new dance.’
