House of Cards
drama / Netflix
‘The American people don’t know what’s best for them – I do,’ said President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) in the trailer for this fifth season of the dark political drama. As we begin, Underwood, needing to distract the public from an explosive Washington Herald article about him, is dealing with the fallout from the hostage crisis at the end of season four, and gets going with an outstanding rant to Congress. But how long can he keep this strategy up? Also back are Chief of Staff Doug (Michael Kelly, looking more and more like a very tired vampire), and icy First Lady Claire (Robin Wright) – and amid the Machiavellian drama, there are a few wince-inducingly topical moments.
