In 2013 this haunt­ing New Zealand-set drama from di­rec­tor Jane Cam­pion wowed crit­ics and won a slew of awards, in­clud­ing a Golden Globe for Elis­a­beth Moss (cur­rently in The Hand­maid’s Tale). Se­ries two, star­ring Ni­cole Kid­man, is com­ing to BBC2 soon but be­fore that, here’s a chance to catch up with se­ries one on Net­flix. De­tec­tive Robin Grif­fin is called in when Tui, a 12-year-old girl, is found to be preg­nant. Robin is de­ter­mined to find out who raped Tui, but she gets lit­tle help from her col­leagues or Tui’s dad (Peter Mul­lan). Tui then seeks refuge with a group of trou­bled women, led by the enig­matic GJ (Holly Hunter).
