Michael Caine and Jude Law are great in this re­make of Caine’s 1972 hit with Lau­rence Olivier. It’s a sleek thriller – Caine is on first-class form, while Law gives ster­ling sup­port and Harold Pin­ter’s script is very amus­ing. With Caine play­ing an age­ing thriller writer who plays a deadly game with his wife’s ac­tor lover Law, it’s vir­tu­ally a two-han­der, although Pin­ter him­self can be seen at one point on the TV. De­spite its abrupt end­ing, the film’s both in­trigu­ing and
