Ex­pec­ta­tion is high and ru­mours are rife about BBC1’S much-an­tic­i­pated adap­ta­tion of Lit­tle Women, based on Louisa May Al­cott’s much-loved com­ing-of-age story about the lives and loves of four sis­ters grow­ing up in 19th-cen­tury Mas­sachusetts.

Call the Mid­wife writer Heidi Thomas is cur­rently pen­ning the three-part drama, which is set against the back­drop of the Amer­i­can Civil War, and Mur­der She Wrote leg­end An­gela Lans­bury is said to be in talks to play the girls’ wellto-do Aunt March.
