As the leaves start to fall, the team sees crab spiders that camouflage themselves to snare prey, and investigat­es how wildlife stocks up on food to survive winter.

‘We look at hedgehogs; one was underweigh­t, but he’d have been fine because it was so mild and they gain weight very quickly,’ says Chris. ‘We also see how compost heaps provide a vast amount of food for wildlife and how worms aerate the soil. Everything from

beetles and birds to fox cubs rely on them.’
