Max takes on Steven

Man confronts boy this week – but will he uncover Steven’s lies?

-

If there was ever any doubt that Steven Beale was a sandwich short of a picnic, then last week’s events in Albert Square put them to bed. Desperate to stop girlfriend Lauren from jetting off to New Zealand, the brooding businessman came up with the mother of all lies.

Lauren fell for his fib, and didn’t get as far as Heathrow Airport.

But this week, Max smells a rat, and resolves to uncover the truth.

Not surprisingly, Steven’s revelation has left Lauren reeling. So when Abi finds out that it was a cruel con trick, she warns Steven to put her sister straight. When did she get so righteous?

Following Abi’s lecture, Steven’s tempted to come clean – but as he spies on Lauren at work via his secret camera, he soon changes his mind. ‘He hears her telling her boss, Josh, that she’s going to give Steven another chance, so he thinks he’d be stupid to tell the truth,’ reveals our Eastenders mole. ‘He knows he’s doing wrong, but, for him, the end justifies the means.’

Lauren later opens up to Max about Steven’s announcement, but he’s instantly suspicious, and does some digging. Will he find out that Steven’s lying? And if so, will he give the lad his just desserts, or stand back and lap up Lauren’s misery? Let’s not forget that the ginger schemer wants revenge on everyone who wronged him over Lucy Beale’s murder – faaamly included.

Steven isn’t the only one getting the meddling Max treatment – so, too is Ian Beale. He accepts an offer for the chippy, but pulls out of the sale when he discovers that it’s from Weyland and Co, the company Max works for. Max is miffed – his grand plan for Walford obviously includes Squeale’s spud haven.

Can he get Ian to change his mind?

Meanwhile, Max tries to work his magic on a smitten Carmel, too. He accepts her invitation to a romantic dinner, and uses the opportunity to rifle through her top-secret council planning files. As Carm catches him red-handed, can he come up with a cover story?
