Sparks fly as Peter asks Leanne to move in with him and Toyah
We knew we were in for drama when recovering alcoholic Peter Barlow bought the Rovers. He’s only been in the pub for a few hours this week when there’s trouble afoot – but it has nothing to do with his booze battle and everything to do with a certain ex called Leanne, whom he invites to move in with him and Toyah. There’s definitely unfinished business between the pair. How long until they’re making eyes behind Toyah’s back?
As Peter and Toyah enjoy their first shift as landlord and landlady, Leanne is having a crisis. Nick has sold his flat, and the new tenant’s moving in straight away. Panicked, Leanne hotfoots it to the pub and explains the situation to Peter, who later tells a stunned Toyah that he has offered her sister, Simon and baby Oli a roof above their heads.
‘There’s so much potential for Leanne to be in the way and stir the pot,’ says Jane Danson, who plays her. ‘Even if she and Peter aren’t romantically linked, they’ll always be linked by Simon and Toyah.’
It’s not what Toyah needs – Lee is, after all, her boyfriend’s ex. And the news comes when she’s feeling more vulnerable than ever. It’s time to take another pregnancy test...
‘Toyah wants a child more than anything,’ says Georgia Taylor, who plays her, ‘but I don’t know how much longer she can keep putting her body through it. She’s had about eight rounds of IVF now, so there may come a time when the doctors say enough is enough.’
Peter urges his partner to do the test, but Toyah is evasive. Is she scared that her dream of being a mum is slipping out of reach?
Later, Leanne gets a cheque for £25k from Nick, from the proceeds of the flat sale. She tells Peter that she wants to use the money to fund the fertility treatment. But is Toyah’s family planning finished? And if it is, could this mean that her and Peter’s relationship is, too?
