Leyla is stunned to catch Priya with a pregnancy test
There are lots of naturalborn love cheats in Emmerdale, but Pete Barton isn’t one of them. He fancies Priya Sharma like mad, but the guilt of their affair is weighing him down and it isn’t helped by the fact that Leyla takes being loved-up to new extremes.
Unfortunately for him, things are about to get a whole lot worse, as Priya is worried that she might be pregnant with his baby.
At the start of the week, Leyla isn’t looking quite as joyous as she has been doing in recent weeks. She’s upset and disappointed in the fact that Pete didn’t pick up on the spontaneous idea of them having an impromptu unicorn-themed wedding, and is hurt by his reaction to her marriage proposal.
In a bid to let her down gently, he explains that now is not a good time to get hitched because he’s broke. The excuse buys him a little time, but then, just as he is breathing a huge sigh of relief, along comes Priya to deliver some shocking news. He is left reeling when she suggests she might be having a baby and he could be a dad.
‘It is difficult for Priya, because Leyla is her closest friend,’ says Fiona Wade, who plays the newly single businesswoman. ‘Priya has been through a lot and didn’t think about Leyla when she decided to sleep with Pete. She hadn’t really spoken to him properly before and when it happened she realised she had feelings for him. Now, she is feeling just awful. A baby would make things really complicated.’
