Rovers ROBBERY!
Armed men target the boozer when Glenda is on her lonesome...
Glenda’s in her element as she hosts a speeddating night at the Rovers – give that woman a microphone and she thinks she’s Weatherfield’s answer to Jane Mcdonald.
But at the end of the evening, things take a terrifying turn when two masked burglars storm in and raid the till.
The event is Jenny’s idea, but while Glenda thinks it’s fabulous, Daisy finds it rather cringe. Still, it’s not quite so cringey as having her mum Christina rock up. The mouthy Scouser has a penchant for international sofa-surfing, but her passport has expired and she needs a place to crash.
Daisy wants her to get the first Wayfarer out of Weatherfield, but Ryan insists Christina stick around, arguing that it’s the least she deserves after lending her daughter and Jenny all that money to buy the Rovers. Cue a puzzled look from Christina and panic from Daisy and Jen, who fear the dodgy means by which they acquired the boozer is about to be exposed.
The following day, with Christina in no hurry to leave,
Daisy and Jenny decide to escape. The latter goes out for some posh nosh with Rita, while Daisy goes away with Ryan. This leaves Glenda having to take over as speed-dating MC. Well, someone’s got to do it.
‘She absolutely loves it!’ laughs Jodie Prenger, who plays Glenda. ‘She probably hosted a few rounds of bingo on the cruise ships, so she’s going back to what she loves doing.’
The love matches are minimal, although Christina does take a shine to a fella called Connor, who has a tattoo. With the punters later packed off home, tired Glenda grabs a glass of water from the kitchen, but heads into the bar after hearing a noise.
‘It’s the worst feeling to see somebody invading your home,’ adds Jodie. ‘There are two men and there’s glass everywhere.’
Terrified Glenda is ordered to get down on to the floor as the duo swipe the takings. She calls the police once they’ve gone and fills Jenny in when she arrives back, and Jenny encourages her to take the morning off.
Glenda shrugs off Jenny’s concern and insists that she’s fine. But is she really?
