Fabriclive 93 8/10
As a tribute to the London nightclub that helped lure him onto the dancefloor, Dan Snaith has used the occasion of his debut Fabric mix CD to premiere a set of brand-new Daphni material. The move nods to one of his DJ heroes, Ricardo Villalobos, who did the same thing with his Fabric mix in 2007, although Snaith’s take on minimalist dance music is brighter and more immediate. Where he does indulge his love of weird noises and world music samples, they’re always housed within a crisp rhythmic structure. Caribou-esque melodic fragments abound, bathed in the joy that radiates from pumping, disco-driven anthems “Vs” and the climactic “Fly Away”.
