Exotic electronic pop collaboration, from Finland

The two men of Man Duo are Jaakko Eino Kalevi and Long-Sam, a pair of musicianproducers from Helsinki who have individually impressed with their solo takes on dreamy, synthetic pop. Orbit sees their shared musical predilections slide further into focus, “Ile’s Dream” and “Tanyan Teema” drawing on funk, electronic Krautrock and the soulful end of yacht rock to create vistas of romantic yearning and beautiful melancholy. It’s never better than “The Middle”, a glittering soul strut with a smouldering vocal from guest star Sean Nicholas Savage that recalls ’80s Prince – although “The Boss”, a languid closer with Jaakko Eino Kalevi adding wails of burnished saxophone, comes close.
